C. Victorian Boots with Provenance Approx Sz 5 Antique Victorian Shoes Historical Fashion Clothing$265.00
Beautiful brown leather boots circa 1890s (according to the provenance, the summer of 1896-1897).
They come with a scrap of fabric with a hand written note describing the provenance. Unfortunately this note is faded and hard to read. However, someone has written a more detailed provenance note on two stickers which have been place on the sole of the boots.
According to these notes, the boots belonged to "Jim's mother" and were purchased from her "brother Oscar who had a store in Chicago."
I am quite attached to these boots. The very pointed toes and diamond toe stitching really are my favorite features to see on 1890s boots. These are very special and I would recommend them for study or display rather than wearing.
Measurements
Marked as a size 3, which likely corresponds to an approximate size 5 US. But please check the measurements if you plan to wear these.
9" insole length (but please keep in mind the very pointed toe!)
2. 75" wide, measured at the ball of the boot across the bottom of the sole
8. 5" circumference measured at the ball of the foot around the outside of the boot
1" heel
7" total height
Condition
Lovely condition overall with expected wear from age. Leather is still quite soft and supple, though it is thin. The laces are slightly different from one another and do not appear original. There is wear to the soles and also around the toes and heels.
Likely best for study or display, but I do think they would be fine to wear for a photo shoot. However please do consider their age and recognize that they are not best for normal wear.
Antique boots can last a lifetime (or two!) when well taken care of. I highly recommend finding a skilled cobbler to help take care of your shoes.
