This black wool crepe micro-mini dress by designer Geoffrey Beene is a great example of the clean lines and space-age styling of the mod mid-1960s. The Coty Award-winning designer created this youthful-yet-elegant dress using medium-weight, high-quality wool crepe. The high, squared-off neckline and deeply cut-out armholes form a narrow yoke or panel, ending just above the bust, from which the rest of the dress hangs. Below the neckline/shoulder yoke, the dress has a subtle A-line shape, with vertical darts in front and back. The narrow front yoke turns into wide shoulder straps in back, fastened with large, sparkling rhinestone buttons. (Although the buttons are technically functional, with real buttonholes, the straps are sewn down to the back of the dress just above them, so they are actually decorative.) The back of the dress also has vertical seaming, with the nylon zipper hand-sewn into the left-hand seam, so as not to interrupt the clean lines of the dress with an obvious zipper, a nice detail! This marvelously mod 1960s mini dress by Beene is fully lined in black silk organza, and has no flaws to note. It appears worn once or twice, if at all--in excellent to mint condition.
