Jean Muir, (1928-1995) was a British designer known for soft, unstructured garments that are now very popular on the vintage market. This ensemble comprises a knee-length shift style dress and an open-sided cardigan, or ruana. The dress has one patch pocket set at an angle on the hip; it can be worn with an optional tie belt. The cardigan, or ruana, closes with a single button at the neckline, and the sides are attached only under each arm, forming a kimono style sleeve while leaving the sides open. It too comes with a second optional tie belt. We believe this ensemble is from the 1980s. If it had shoulder pads originally, they have been removed (fabric care label states, "Remove Shoulder Pads.") Labeled Italian size 42. Sizing charts indicate the dress is suitable for sizes 8 to 10. Please use the measurements for the best guidance regarding size. Photos of black garments are usually not the best, expecially after being compressed for online use, so a lot of detail is lost. Both pieces are a true black color with no discoloration. This is a great looking outfit in "real life" that could just as easily have been designed today as in the 1980s.
