This late 1940s or early 1950s evening gown in black guipure floral lace and tulle has an illusion bodice, with a sweetheart shaped, black rayon taffeta lining, below sheer shoulders and sleeves. The cap sleeve, lace bodice extends to just below the natural waist, and is studded all over with prong set, clear rhinestones. The full, flowing skirt has 3 layers: an outer layer of tulle with tiny dots, an inner layer of plain tulle, and a lining layer of black rayon taffeta. Both layers of tulle in the skirt are quite soft, unlike stiffer/crisper tulle fabrics, and probably also made of rayon (as is the bodice lace, I think). The gown fastens with a metal zipper in the left side seam, and another metal zipper at the back of the neck. In good, wearable condition, the lace and tulle are sturdy, and survived a careful drycleaning quite well. However, the skirt section does have several small, rust-colored (faded) spots, which are fairly well hidden by the fullness of the skirt, when the dress is worn (see photos.) The only other issue to note is that the middle skirt layer of unfinished/un-hemmed plain black tulle is worn along its lower edge. This is not seen when worn, as it is hidden under the outer layer of dotted tulle.
