Stunning Victorian mourning shawl or cape. That gorgeous beading ( probably french jet) and looped velvety faux fur trim! High neck, narrow shoulders, buttons down the front and a tie inside at the back that comes round front to add shape to the back. No label. I'd say one size fits most except in the shoulder area. So do check that measurement. Fels like a light weight wool.
Excellent vintage condition, especially given its age. Still very, very wearable. Maybe 3 or 4 pinholes, nothing bigger than that. The beading seems to be mostly intact. Some of the faux fur looping trim has come a bit loose but that doesn't detract from the fabulousness of this, though you cold add a stitch or two here or there if you want. The only real thing to note is in the center back on either side of that incredible trim. There's a scattering of yellowish spots, looks like something got on this and faded the black. It doesn't bother me so I wasn't going to risk trying to re-dye it. But I suppose one could try spot dyeing it.
Measurements when lying flat.
As this is so open and asymmetrical, measurements are rather random and difficult to get. Its one size fits most I'd say, though I'd probably recommend it for a smaller size. Please ask for anything specific you're wondering size wise, I'm happy to oblige.
Shoulder to shoulder: 13", that's seam to seam. Where the actual fabric goes is wider. This is supposed to look very narrow as that was the fashion then, but the fabric does allow for a more normal shoulder breadth.
