Glitz and glam is the best way to describe this vintage Donna Karan DKNY black bodysuit accented with an overall pattern of swirly black sequins. It is glamorous, in a 1980's way, that is also perfect for today's contemporary woman. Beautiful when worn with a dressy skirt or pants for a more formal occasion, you can also wear it more casually for maximum versatility.
With a mix of 90% Cotton and 10% Spandex, this bodysuit has stretch for your best fit and comfort too. Even better, with the cotton and Spandex fabric mix, is it completely washable. The tag shows Size Small, however please use the measurements below to determine if this will fit you:
Shoulder to shoulder ~~~ 15 inches
Bust size ~~~ will stretch from 34 to 38 inches
Sleeve length ~~~ 23 inches on the top and 21 inches at the underside of the arm
Waist size ~~~ will stretch from 25 to 33 inches
Full length of bodysuit when the snaps are snapped in the first position ~~~ 26 inches
There is a scoop or what is sometimes called a ballet style neckline. This terrific body suit has the ease of a dance leotard, with the dressy appearance of a sweater.
Black sequins are only on the waist up part of the black knit and there are no sequins on the panty portion.
As you can tell from the photo, part of the ease is due to the way the bottom of the bodysuit is cut high on the leg to fit so well and maintain comfort so it is easy to wear for a long period of time. With two rows of snaps at the crotch it is easy to get this off and on.
The attached label shows this was Made In Hong Kong, with the Donna Karan RN 68596.
In Excellent Vintage condition, there are no stains, snags or holes and the snaps at the crotch are in good working order.
Freshly laundered, it comes to you ready to wear immediately from a home with no pets and no smokers. I used Forever New Unscented Fabric Care Wash, which I always use for cleaning lingerie items, when I laundered this bodysuit.
In the 1980's Donna Karan's "Seven Basic Pieces Concept" was an instant success with women. Karan had the brilliant idea of replacing the power suit with her 7 Easy Pieces.
These were defined as a bodysuit, wrap skirt, a chiffon blouse, a longer jacket, leggings, blazer and dress. These essential pieces were all in basic solid colors, such as black, grey and red. The beauty in these items is that they are totally interchangeable. A busy woman could go from day to night in these effortlessly. Donna Karan began her design career at Anne Klein in 1967. When Anne Klein became ill in 1973 Donna Karan was named as head designer. Klein died in 1974 and Karan, along with Louis dell’Olio, designed the Anne Klein collections for the next 10 years. In 1984 she left and formed her own company, Donna Karan New York, in 1985. Donna Karan is known for her use of black and her sleek look with little decoration.
