60's Black Bakelite Earrings$45.00
These vintage earrings are light and delicate. They consist of a 5/8 inch black cut glass top with a gold plated earring post. A .75 inch black textured thin metal component holds a .75 inch carved black plastic tear drop shape. The features carved into the thick plastic is an Asian floral design on both sides held by gold plated filigree pieces. They hang to 2. 5 inches. They are marked ," Lewis Segal and are vintage from the sixties.
These earrings are circa 1965 and made by Lewis Segal, a high end costume jewelry maker of the time. The first half of the 20th century was the heyday for well made costume jewelry sold from fine department stores to Woolworth, usually made in Europe or the United States. The manufacture and quality of costume jewelry deteriorated in the latter part of the century making this era the last with enduring products.
