Antique Victorian Portrait Mourning Pendant$185.00
This pendant likely dates back to the late Victorian era (late 1800s). It is made of sterling silver with a glass front; there appears to have been a gold plating finish, which has developed a natural patina. This pendant depicts a somewhat faded portrait, and was likely worn as mourning jewelry. Mourning jewelry predates the 17th Century, but it hugely gained popularity in the 19th Century when Queen Victoria mourned the death of her beloved Albert. Those who had lost a loved one would follow a certain sartorial code to mourn their loss, and to remember the deceased. I love the intricate border on this piece. Note that the chain is not included, but the generous jump-ring makes it easy to wear on any chain. Please contact me if you are interested in purchasing a chain. Measures 1.25" with ring x .75" wide. The Antique Art Deco Cameo Pendant pictured is also available in my shop.
Great antique condition, with some natural wear to metal commensurate with age. The silver can be polished or left with the patina. With any questions about the specific condition or size, please email shop@verybreezy.com for additional photos or measurements.
