Stunning, museum-quality floral printed dress from the late 1840s or early 1850s.

The sleeves on this dress are gorgeous. They have a tight section at the top with seam piping at the top and bottom, then they flow down more loosely. Underneath the fabric, there is an entire sleeve of bobbin lace that peeks out with a ruffle at the wrist.

The bodice of this dress is lined and it closes with hooks and eyes up the front. There is one hook that has been replaced and seems to be newer, but all the rest are original. I believe the fabric is cotton. It is printed with a beautiful floral pattern in shades of magenta, brown, and teal on a cream-colored background. There is more seam piping at the waist.

Condition: Good for its age. It is evident that great care has been taking in preserving this dress over the years. There are numerous repairs throughout the skirt (see final picture). There are also numerous small holes, particularly in the outer layer of fabric on the back near the neck (see photos). There are a handful of small stains and areas of slight discoloration. Overall, it presents beautifully despite these flaws.

Due to its age, I would recommend this dress for display or study rather than wearing. Also due to its age, I have not attempted to clean it.
