Natalie Joan
Antique Rare Book / Lie-Down Stories / Children Book / Natalie Joan 20s$40.00
1920s children book, Lie-Down Stories by Natalie Joan with illustrations by Anne Anderson. This rare book was published by Blackie & Son in London. There is no date but from my research it is from the late 1920s.
This hard book has an adorable cover with a mother tucking her little girl in bed with her teddy bear.
It is a collection of children's fairies stories that would be fun to read to your child at bedtime.
There are 8 colored illustrations and other black and white ones. The illustrations have fairies, gnomes, dressed cats and more. "Anne Anderson (1874 - 1930) was a prolific Scottish illustrator, primarily known for her art nouveau children's book illustrations, although she also painted, etched and designed greeting cards." (Wikipedia)
Condition: Front and back cover in VG condition with minimum wear to the edge. The binding is a little loose. The first illustration, next to the title page is loose. I was going to tape it in but thought I'd leave that to the buyer, in case you want to do it a certain way. That is the only page that is loose (second photo). The pages are in good condition with some discoloring and the interior side of the cover and back cover has light brown spotting (no smell). Please see last photo. The illustrations are clear and great. There is an inscription from Aunt Laura, dated 1930.
This book is from the UK and would make an exciting and fresh read for children in the US.
