Antique Edwardian Striped White Cotton Lawn Shirt Waist Large Jabotlike Ruffle$185.00
This is a wonderful antique Edwardian striped cotton lawn blouse. The blouse has that wonderful Gibson Girl pigeon-breasted silhouette, and to add volume to the chest it also has the most wonderful large ruffle down the front of the blouse, like a giant jabot. It is also trimmed in lovely lace. The blouse is high necked with shirt stays to support the stand-up collar. It has long sleeves that fasten at the wrist with buttons at the lace cuff. The shirt buttons up the back with a hidden placket. I have to say this might really require help to button up, as I struggled buttoning it up on the mannequin. It is gathered at the bottom in the back and on each side of the placket there are loops so that a skirt could be attached. They would help hold it in place. The shirt is also gathered in the front instead of having a tie to give it the pigeon-breasted silhouette. The shirt does have a tag that reads O’Neill’s of Baltimore.
Condition:
The shirt is in fantastic condition with no flaws. The only thing to note is that there is no fastening on the back of the collar, there was no sign that there ever was. If preferred, hooks and eyes could be added. The shirt has been professionally hand laundered and is ready to wear.
