Antique Edwardian Black Two Piece Set Cut Outs and Bows$455.00
This is probably the loveliest thing I have ever been able to share with the world!
Early 1900s very Gibson Girl style 2 pc black silk evening or formal dress with the most incredible details. Skirt is done in a textured weave silk from waist to below knee, knee is the same crisp silk taffeta as bodice, creating a bit of a mermaid hemline effect. Hooks up in back.
The BODICE is where the wonder lies! Pouter pigeon silhouette with a wide round neckline- front dips into a deep V with black velvet ribbon creating a lattice affect across deepest part. V shaped front panel is flanked with side SLITS that copy the neckline with more black velvet bands and bows. But that's not all of it! Gorgeous full puffed sleeves widen toward ends in a near cape effect with more straps of velvet and little bows. Hooks up back with hooks and eyes.
There are some repairs along seams on skirt and one tear repair, very minor and not obvious in the depths of the black silk. One assumes the bodice was lined (though no indication of any fabric or stitching remains)- maybe just worn over a silk chemise? Certainly something hid the sides of then wearer's lingerie where the sides are open!
I've never seen anything quite like this extravagant gown!
