This absolutely stunning Antique lace piece will be given a second life, this time as a blouse!
An amazing example of fine lace-making, this top was once a nightgown but was found torn, so we shortened it and voila! Made of a lightweight white cotton, the upper yoke area of bodice is completely reticulated with oblong petal pattern. Two small butterfly-shaped inserts of this reticulated fabric are also found at either sleeve. The lower section of blouse is pin-tucked into a (higher-than-empire) waist line (almost bust line!). Neckline, waist line and cuffs feature daisy embroidered, pull work trim with eyelets for ribbon lacing (original ribbons are gone but a blue ribbon of synthetic fiber is at waist) and gathering. This blouse potentially has an array of looks, by merely adding or taking away ribbon at these place, i.e. add a ribbon at the sleeves to turn them from butterfly to puff! Neckline, cuffs and reticulated inserts are finished with a very finely tatted lace. Upon close inspection lace does appear machine-made, as it is extremely consistent. Condition is near mint with one small repair to fabric at bottom right hem (see pic).
