VRIKKE SWEATERS - Norwegian Design by Irene Haugland Zahl. Circa 1990s. Made in Hong Kong.

Body is a medium weight color blocked cream and light tan boiled wool with a nubby texture. Front, back, sleeves and hems are embroidered with red, green, gold, tan and cream floral and paisley folk art designs. 100% wool. Dry clean only.

Boxy fit with round neck and long sleeves. No pockets. Pewter tone clasp closure. Unlined.

There is a light stain near the elbow of the left sleeve that I didn't try to remove. There was also a small moth hole near the back hem of the right sleeve that has been darned. See last pics. Otherwise good vintage condition with normal signs of wear for its age. No stains. Smoke free home.

Marked size M, but fits comfortably on a modern size 14 dress form.
Approx. measurements: One side flat pit to pit chest is 23." 22" at hem.
20" long from back of neck. 19" bracelet length sleeve from shoulder.

Here is how one of her books describes Zahl: "Irene Haugland is a designer and started her own company, Vrikke, in 1993 just before the Lillehammer Olympics, with great success. Her designs are inspired by old Norwegian handicraft traditions: Norwegian rose painting, hand embroidery, and symbols from the Middle Ages."
