James Galanos (1924-2016) was known for using the finest materials and impeccable construction in his garments, often called the "˜American Couturier.” Stanley Marcus, of Neiman Marcus lineage and fame, once declared that the greatest luxury in the world for a woman was to own a dress by James Galanos. Indeed, Hubert de Givenchy, the illustrious French couturier, once looked at the inside of a Galanos garment and exclaimed "... we don't make them this well in Paris!"

This jacket and shirt ensemble is an extraordinary example of Galanos's exacting standards for quality and detail. This 1980s coordinating set comprises an open jacket and a short sleeved collared shirt. The jacket has wide black lapels and buttoned cuffs with black silk ribbon trim. The shell fabric is an off-white and black striped silk faille; the lining is luscious black silk charmeuse. The three-quarter zip shirt is a coordinating black and white silk faille with a solid black collar. It has a wonderful pleated front and is trimmed all around the bottom with black silk ribbon. Both pieces have padded shoulders. Worn together or as separates, these two pieces will add vintage sophistication to your wardrobe. No size labels are present, but based on the measurements, sizing charts indicate the set is a size L, or about 10-12. Please refer to the measurements for the best guidance regarding actual size.

CONDITION
The jacket has no apparent condition issues. The shirt has a couple of thread pulls in front that are essentially invisible and one pull in back that is visible, but no other condition issues.
