James Galanos (1924-2016) was known for using the finest materials and impeccable construction in his garments, often called the "˜American Couturier.” Stanley Marcus, of Neiman Marcus lineage and fame, once declared that the greatest luxury in the world for a woman was to own a dress by James Galanos. Indeed, Hubert de Givenchy, the illustrious French couturier, once looked at the inside of a Galanos garment and exclaimed "... we don't make them this well in Paris!"

This 1980s Galanos dress is a taupe silk with large free form dots in ivory, and the midriff is a solid ivory silk. The skirt is two layers, the shorter of which is split in the front (see photo). The sleeves are pleated at the shoulder and gathered along the inside seam, which makes them extremely full. The dress also has a standing collar, padded shoulders, and back zipper for closure. Unlined. No size label is present, but sizing charts indicate that it is closest to a modern US size 10. Please refer to the measurements for the best guidance regarding actual size.

- Shoulders width is 14.5" between seams and 16.5 inches to edges of shoulder pads.
- Chest is 38"
- Waist is 34"
- Hips are free.
- Sleeve length is 24"
- Length is 43.5" down center back excluding collar.

CONDITION
Excellent condition with a few extremely faint spots on midriff - too faint to appear in one of our photos.
