Amazing 1980s pullover sweater
This one presents a bit of a mystery...it was made by designer Koos van den Akker for a small capsule collection with Ben Kahn Furs in the early 1980s but I don’t recognize the type of fur. Initially I thought it was faux fur because it is not super soft to the touch like mink, broadtail, sable and other types of furs that he used in this collection. Either way, it’s an incredible piece!
- Boxy sweater with alternating rows of plush navy blue (faux?) fur, multicolor quilted stripes, and fuzzy multicolor navy mohair
- V neck with quilted black fabric and one button at top
- Unlined
Label: Koos for Ben Kahn.
Koos van den Akker ( 1939-2015) was a Dutch-born fashion designer with a celebrity clientele who was called the “master of couture collage” for his prismatic creations, notably the bold sweaters popularized by Bill Cosby on his long-running sitcom (Source: New York Times).
