Stunning 1980's vintage evening dress from Bill Blass in red and black silk faille with velvet insert could just as easily stepped out of the 1940s in an homage to Old Hollywood glamor. The full length gown has large shoulder pads (of course), long sleeves, a jewel neckline, and a back zipper for closure. The sleeves are very narrow at the wrist and so also close with zippers. Down the upper red section of the dress are contrasting black buttons with decorative button holes, and on the left hip there is a diagonal section of black velvet inset between the red and black sections. No fabric labels are present but there is no doubt, with the possible exception of the velvet, that the dress is 100% silk faille lined in red silk. The velvet is probably silk, but could be a silk and rayon blend. Labeled size 6, but measurements indicate that the sizing runs large and is closer to a modern size 8, or a size 10 with small hips, which is very unusual for vintage garments (although I have seen this before with 1980s Bill Blass dresses). CONDITION
This dress is in remarkably good condition. It shows only the very faintest signs of any previous wear and has no significant flaws.
