It's a sad day indeed when I don't have AT LEAST one or two Laura Ashleys available in TVBC. How did I allow this to happen?! I have zero LA up and I HAVE them in the spare bedroom, so what they hey-ho, Nina?

I will feel the world is a little right-er when I hit PUBLISH and this skirt goes live so I'm going to rush through the description a bit.

Um, it's checkered. I lo-ooove a good checkered skirt. It's not as big a fashion risk as a polka dot, but it is still one up from a solid if you know what I mean.

And this is in a blue, so it's super-matchable.

It's country and it's preppy—a fashion oxymoron that somehow works. Like a Future Farmers of America cheerleader—which I want to see more of because breaking down stereotypes with your fashion choices is subversive yet effective. It makes people stop and think, “wait, those things aren’t supposed to go together and yet somehow...they work.” As Oprah says, “the goal is to get people to say, ‘I never thought of it that way before.’”

So this skirt has (in a roundabout way) the O seal of approval.

You might be thinking. “Well, Ralph Lauren is country-preppy” but he's more ranch-preppy, like there are horses and knee-high riding boots on his fashion farm, whereas with Laura Ashley, they have cows and chickens and un-mowed wildflower fields.

So dress this up with your prepster sandals/shoes or throw on a floppy straw hat, tank, and flip flops and go grab a kale something-or- another.

Buttons on both sides of the skirt, because we should look good from both sides. AND the token pocket on the left (fist pump for pockets!).

Pleats, because MS. Ashley liked her full skirts, and pleats do a darn good job in taking a bunch of material at the waist and making it spread out around the hips for maximum spinning circumference.

It's a classic pattern and silhouette that are never, never going out of style (unless we have a resurgence of the 80's), so find a hanger and a place in your closet for this skirt b/c once you have it, it's not going anywhere.
