Currently a freelance shoe designer, Nina Gelardi was President/CEO of Nina Gelardi Designs, Inc. from November 1988-March 1998 , where she designed and manufactured handmade wearable art belts (and handbags and jewelry). Belts were made of hand painted and embossed fine leathers with mixed media buckles of semiprecious stones, metals, porcelain, and/or horn. Belt buckles were patina metal with additions of horn, beads, and semi-precious stones and beads. The interchangeable leather belts were embossed, painted or tooled to accentuated the buckle
Her collections were marketed internationally to fine clothing boutiques, museum shops, and specialty stores. These limited editions were inspired by her fascination with Indonesian, South American and Southwestern native cultures.
The patina metal buckle of this signature design has a Southwestern flavor of cut-outs, pieces of metal, and semi-precious stones and is beautifully accented with a moss green and gold distressed leather belt, which is interchangeable (see photo).
