Throw on a piece of NYC hat designer history with this Fred Hasson topper...
Made from a soft and malleable black wool felt, this hat features a tall, rounded crown that may seemingly be worn two different ways (although I do believe the original intention is to dimple or flatten the top of the crown, when I acquired it the crown was fully rounded -I've photographed both alternative styles of wear). The extra wide brim is curled evenly around, and is finished with a black braided cord of an antique (military) style. The base of the crown is also decorated with a 1.5" width black picot ribbon featuring self-satin stripes that finishes as a flat bow at the back. The overall condition is near mint with one tiny area with issue at back brim. The only label present merely reads 'Fred Hasson New York'.
From my research Fred Hasson was a well-known hat designer with product in many smaller NYC boutiques, as well as some celebrity clientele, including a few rock stars! A Dec. 3, 1989 New York Times article mentions Fred Hasson pieces selling at an NYC downtown boutique called Yoshi for $125.
