Stanley Marcus, co-founder of Neiman Marcys, once declared that the greatest luxury in the world for a woman was to own a dress by James Galanos. Indeed, Galanos clothing is admired for its particularly high quality, especially considering it was ready-to-wear and not custom made.

This 1980s Galanos dress is a taupe silk with large abstract dots, and the midriff is a contrasting ivory silk. The skirt is two layers, the shorter of which is split in the front (see photo). Although the sleeves drape softly, they are pleated at the shoulder and gathered along the inside seam, which makes them quite full (see photo). The dress also has a standing collar, padded shoulders, and back zipper for closure. Unlined. No size label is present, so based on the measurements, we are estimating it to be closest to a modern size 10. Please refer to the measurements for additional guidance regarding size.

MEASUREMENTS
- Shoulders width is 14.5" between seams and 16.5 inches to edges of shoulder pads.
- Chest is 38" after doubling underarm width.
- Waist is 34"
- Hips are free.
- Sleeve length is 24"
- Length is 43.5" down center back excluding collar.

CONDITION
Excellent condition structurally with a few extremely faint spots on the midriff. They are too faint to appear in the photos and would not be noticed by the casual observer when you are wearing the dress.
