Jessica Mcclintock for I. Magnin
70s Rare Gunne Sax Designer Russian Style Dress$1,100.00
This dress is an extremely rare example from this designer, who, in the 1970's earned a collaboration with high end store I. Magnin. She designed this line under her name, rather than the Gunne Sax label, but the influence is clearly there. To me, this dress is very Russia-inspired, which was a bit of a trend in the 1970's.
The dress consists of three separate floral prints in lightweight cotton, pieced together at bodice, cuffs and lower skirt. The main body fabric is a lightweight, black wool/polyester blend, with semi-opaqueness. The high neckline and left shoulder feature a lovely black button-up detail, which is also echoed in the wide style cuffs. The waistline is almost empire-style and above the natural waist. Skirt is A-line and features two hip pockets -yay! Center back has a nylon zipper closure. No lining. Overall condition is excellent to near mint, with a few unnoticeable repairs and reinforced seams throughout, but no flaws to note. Labels read 'Jessica McClintock', 'I. Magnin' and 'made in U.S.A., size 7, print: 100% cotton, 70% polyester/30% wool'.
