Guard against the sheer wind and cold, in this 70's sheared fur coat pieced with thick leather...

This vintage late 1960's to early 1970's coat comes from long-time furrier, Ben-Ric, from Queens, New York. They did a lot of custom-made pieces, and I believe this is one of them, because the owner's name 'Vera C.' is embroidered within the pocket lining. This midi-length coat has incredible pieced dark brown leather and sheared fur construction. The rounded lapel collar easily pops up to standing position and we have two hidden front hip pockets lined with a fleece-like fabric (its the thought that goes into the little details with finely made vintage pieces like this!). The center front has a convenient and unique twist lock closure in gold an brown metalware, while the self-leather says belt slips around the waist at the INSIDE of coat -to keep from crushing the fur at the back! The coat is fully lined with a funky acetate fabric featuring a funky geometric print in cocoa brown palette, and there is that small inner pocket with embroidery. Only label reads 'Ben-Ric'. There are a few options as to what type of fur this could be; sheared beaver, mouton, rabbit or seal. However, I found a few other examples from the Ben-Ric furriers (now closed), and they did utilize sheared mink often, so that's my best guess as to the type of fur! Overall condition is excellent to very good, with a small nick to leather surface at left side waist, and two repairs; one four inch repair to inner right sleeve/armscye/armpit and a two inch repair at outer left sleeve.
