70's Brown Wool Collarless Jacket

1970's brown wool jacket by Ruth Matthews. Ruth Matthews created many of the clothes Pat Nixon wore during her husband's campaign for the presidency. Eve Arden, Mrs Jack Warner (President of Warner Brothers) and Doris Duke were also regular customers. Her clothes were sold only in her own four shops called Matthews in Beverly Hills on Rodeo Drive, Palm Springs, New York and Chicago. Prices of coats ranged from $169 to 5700, of suits from $195 to $795. Dresses started at $110, sweaters at $39, pants at $49.95 and cottons at $29.95 in the early 60s, so her clothing was very pricey. Fabrics were purchased in Europe and were often woven to order.

The short boxy jacket has brown curved buttons down the front. Slant pockets with decorative buttons on the front. Single button cuffs. Fully lined. Gathered at the top of the sleeve creates a slightly fuller sleeve. There is an inverted pleat on the back of the jacket. There are a few tiny holes on the lining.
