70's Bright Silver and Green Art Deco Style Necklace$65.00
This necklace is large and gaudy. It is a bright silver metal. The textured cable chain measures 23 inches long. The open work Egyptian/art deco style pendant measures 3 inches which holds a 2 inch detailed drop and hangs from a large thick bail making this a large 4 inch pendant. The 1 inch faux green turquoise cabochon stone sits inside a pendant with flower and squiggled details. The necklace is weighty, but not heavy.
It was made by Whiting and Davis and has the makers mark on a small metal tag. Whiting and Davis have been making metal mesh and chain mail purses since 1876. They have always been high quality, well made and stylish. Even though they make jewelry, they are most known for their metal evening bags.
NecromanceNola sells this type of vintage necklace often since it was well made, usually plated multiple times and had unique design. The bright silver tone plating is still in excellent condition.
This metal necklace is circa 1970 and made by a high end costume jewelry maker of the time. The first half of the 20th century was the heyday for well made costume jewelry sold from fine department stores to Woolworth, usually made in Europe or the United States. The manufacture and quality of costume jewelry deteriorated in the latter part of the century making this era the last with enduring products.
