Although made in the 1970s as a luxury garment, this black velvet leisure or lounging outfit from Valentino presages the jogging apparel craze prevalent in today's fashion. Both the top and the pants are finished with ribbed knit cuffs, like today's modern "joggers." The top also has a bateau neck with two buttons on each side of the neckline. The pants have a regular waistband (if only Valentino had also foreseen elastic waistbands in the '70s), a fly front zipper, on seam pockets, and belt loops. The velvet fabric is 100% rayon, and the linings are vicose. Labeled vintage size 6, but based on the 24" waist size of the pants, the modern size is a 0-2, or XS. Please refer to the measurements for the best guidance regarding actual size.

NOTE: A skilled tailor could probably increase the waist size by at least two inches (maybe up to three) by releasing what feel like six uncut waist darts and a back seam. This type of alteration would require splicing the waistband, but it wouldn't be seen, because the top covers the waistband. An rare vintage outfit like this one in essentially in perfect condition, and from one of the greatest designers of the era, would be worth an investment in alterations, if the waist size is your only deterrent.
