There is something so witty about a Susan Freis dress ... It's that combination of prints, the flowing fabric combined with pleats, and my favorite, the godet inserts in the skirt. It's almost strange to realize that this fabulous dress is a floral print, not an abstract. It is just so good.
Wonderful shades of lipstick pink and lilac make the tulips that bloom across a black background, with accents of polka-dotted lilac in the neck ruffle, waistband, and godets. And look at how that skirt will spread--imagine twirling in it like Marlo Thomas in That Girl!
The top is very flattering, with its surplice crossover and optional ties for the neck. And the ruffle, of course. And shoulder pads! Which you can remove.
Condition is vintage very good. The dress looks and feels as if it could have been made recently--except for elastic fatigue, which I'll describe below. It's very clean with no holes or picks or fading or fraying that I could find.
The fabric looks fresh and new, which is the marvel of polyester. It's that silky georgette that floats and blows and looks great.
But the lady is getting on in years, and elastic doesn't always fare so well. The elastic shirring the waistband and gathering the 3/4 sleeves is a bit tired. You could replace it, but for me the sleeves look just fine. I'd belt the dress and go on my way rejoicing.
I haven't pinned anything to the mannequin--trying to give an accurate sense of how a medium will fit.
