Made in the 196os by the inimitable Malcolm Starr, this dress is a rare and delightful find. Malcolm Starr was known for his glamorous evening-wear, which was especially popular in the 1960s. This dress is a great example of his work: the design is so 1960s, with the empire waist, column shape, and dramatic cape. I love that the underside of the cape is a contrasting color, which emphasizes the graceful movement. The construction details are really magnificent; you'll rarely find gowns made this well today. Little invisible stitches create the perfect bateau neckline shape, and darts keep the column shape fitted, which dips into a low V in the back. Made of a silk crepe, closes with a zipper. The vintage Gold Snake Bracelet pictured is also available.Measurements: Chest: 37"Empire waist/underbust: 30"Length: about 52", could easily be hemmed as neededGreat vintage condition. This piece has been expertly cleaned and preserved, but there are some spots at the dress's hem and cape train which do not come out. Because of their placement, they are barely noticeable and absolutely do not detract from the overall beauty of this piece.
