60s Stacking Black Gold Lacquerware Wooden Bento Box

Store your favorite things in style with this 1960's mid-century, hand made stacking wooden lacquerware bento box, made in Japan. This set includes three levels of storage (typically for food), but could be used to store jewelry, crafting items, or anything you would like! It is colored in jet black and has a stunning, ornate all-around scene painted in metallic gold including two deer in a landscape, botanical motifs, and a crane landscape. The inside is painted in traditional red. The box has a striking geometric shape and plenty of storage space! It was previously owned by an avid traveler who bought the piece in Japan in the 60's and brought it back to the states. The owner was also the designer of many of the famous Rose Parade Floats in that era as well as artist for MCM movie posters.

Bento (弁当 bentō) is a single-portion take-out or home-packed meal common in Japanese cuisine. A traditional bento holds rice or noodles, fish or meat, with pickled and cooked vegetables, in a box. Containers range from mass-produced disposables to hand-crafted lacquerware.

Condition: Great vintage condition with minor imperfections but no structural damage. Paint is in good condition with very few chips and little to no fading.
