Vintage mid century Korean sectioned lacquer food bento box with exquisite mother of pearl inlay on lid. This beautiful box is in an octagon shape with a removable lid and 5 removable compartments inside (easy to clean). Traditionally these are used to serve snacks, food, or candy... but it could also be used to store your jewelry, crafting items, or anything you please! The lid has amazing craftsmanship with hand created floral and geometric shapes...all in mother of pearl inlay. Excellent condition.
Najeon-chilgi 螺細漆器 is a representative art form of Korea based on the technique of mother-of-pearl inlay. First, natural lacquer made from the juice of the sumac tree is repeatedly applied upon the “skeleton” until a slick lacquer layer is formed on the surface.
