Pentti Sarpaneva
60s Finland Modernist Scandinavian Designer Brooch

This is a brooch by Pentti Sarpaneva of Finland which was given to my mother by our Finnish exchange student in 1971-1972. It was probably made during his time designing for Turun Hopea, and is part of his "Pitsi" (Lace) line, which was inspired by handmade lace.

Pentti Sarpaneva was known for designing with recycled items such as boat studs. He took inspiration from nature, lace and castoffs from the zipper industry. He was definitely before his time, and many of his designs are still in production today.

I believe that this metal brooch is constructed from bronze, but I am not guaranteeing that. It is signed on the back (shown) and is shiny and sturdy. I do not see any defects.

A beautiful piece of Modernist jewelry, it will be a perfect addition to your collection.
