Jeunes Filles by Jacques Heim
60s Empire Waist Black Cocktail Dress Designer Lbd$115.00
The French designer Jacques Heim began creating collections for several US department stores as early as 1946. This darling early-to-mid 1960s 2-piece cocktail dress in black rayon crepe was part of his collaboration with Bonwit Teller. The 2 pieces include a sleeveless dress and a matching cropped over-blouse. The dress has an extra-high empire waist seam, sitting just under the bust, with a boatneck bodice and a low- U-shaped neckline in back. Small gathers just below the underbust seam add a bit of fullness to the hips. The boxy over-blouse is also sleeveless, with a draped front neckline and a low back, trimmed with a bow above the center back notch at the hem. The dress fastens with a plastic zipper in back, and the blouse has snaps and hooks under the back bow. The dress is lined with black rayon taffeta, while the blouse is lined with a second layer of crepe fabric. Overall, the dress has a straight, more-or-less tubular shape, with the extra-high bust darts common to garments of this era—definitely best for a small bust! This elegant 1960s LBD, labeled “Jeunes Filles designed by Jacques Heim” is simply chic on its own, and perfect for accessorizing! It is in excellent condition, with no flaws to note.
