This cream embellished knit was made in New York in the 1960s. It features high-quality sequins throughout, with an iridescent look that resembles the mother of pearl. (These are nothing like the quintessential sequins we see today, which are often cheap and poorly made.) The embellishment forms a lattice motif throughout, and when the sequins catch the light, they create an incredible pearlescent glow — mermaid vibes meet Mad Men! This piece is well-made in a way we don't see anymore: The sweater base is in an extremely soft knit similar to the chenille, and the embellishment is on an overlay, so the inside is soft and the embellishment isn't touching the skin (non-itchy!). This knit features a high neck and a keyhole button closure in the back. The material stretches, so it fits a variety of sizes comfortably.
