Sakura Star. Absolutely stunning 1960’s bright navy rayon velvet jacket with an extravagant cherry blossom scene throughout both the front and back side of jacket. Marvelous gathered neck, reminiscent of the 20’s & beautiful heart and floral motif buttons. The beauty of this piece and the mystery are absolutely astounding.

Textile Mystery -
I’m going to nerd out on here on this piece a bit. My best guess on how this design was executed is the rayon velvet is a plaited velvet with an acetate or other synthetic substrate. The design outline was then burned out, leaving the smooth under layer & then an engineered screen print laid over multiple times based on the design and colors. All done at fabric stage, either prior to cutting or possibly post cutting but at a cut piece level. Anyone else have thoughts or knowledge on this?
Just an absolute work of art. And I am so thankful to have had the opportunity to enjoy it in real life within my collection.
