Gorgeous couture made coat from fashion house, Beged Or. Velvety soft sueded pigskin, finely tailored trench coat, trimmed in equally buttery soft, off white leather, edging.
When pigskin is tanned on the inside, it creates this rich, silky suede finish, with a light to dark nap, producing delicate patterns when swept with the hand, that is velvety smooth to the touch.
I obtained two (2) of the most amazing trench coats (on top of other items) last year from a sale of Beged Or items, in New England (one has since sold).
The Israeli couture leather house, was considered the finest in the world in the mid 60s -70s, with the likes of Jackie O wearing their fine, high end, treasures. Unfortunately, the two in the best condition, were also the only two missing labels, so I have priced them accordingly. (One had a receipt from Beged Or in the pocket dated 1967.
It was sold in 1981 and the quality declined immediately.
Its customer list bore the names of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Farah Diba and Leah Rabin, wife of the former Israeli Prime Minister, among others.
FROM the NYTIMES 1981
~But a few weeks ago, Beged Or, Israel's most famous fashion house and one of the finest leather couturiers in the world, found itself in the midst of ignominious times.
After two years of financial difficulties, a commercial court sold Beged Or, whose name is Hebrew for leather clothing. to the nation's largest textile exporter, a modern industrial complex committed to mass production and large scale exports.
