60s/70s Soft Cotton Block Print Traditional Kaftan/caftan$195.00
Lounge in vintage luxury with this super soft and supple cotton caftan...
When it comes to beautiful, traditional textiles, this one takes the cake! It is a super soft and swishy, medium weight cotton weave fabric, which has been block-printed, by hand (each color is applied separately, using a different block, which has to be repeated throughout the fabric length). It's structure is simplistic, a classic Kaftan, with one rectangular length of fabric folded over the shoulders, a neckline is created, two straight stitches are sewn up either side, and lastly, an elastic thread is shirred (sewn) through the width of the waist section -giving the kaftan a bit of shape. This piece is in beautiful, ready to wear condition, with the elastic thread at the waist being a tad stretched out (this is fabulous news for a looser fit, or larger sizing!) and some light fray to the selvedge edges, specifically around the arm hole areas. Please see photographs for full details. Only maker's mark is at bottom inside of fabric, and reads something in calligraphy of a language (possibly Arabic, Persian, Ottoman, Urdu or Islamic language), and then in English reads 'All Cotton Fast Color' and the name 'Khayan (or Krayan) Biriandi'.
