60s/70s Embroidered Paisley Ivory Cheongsam Dress

Whether you want a unique wedding dress or an elegant ivory dress for a special occasion - this piece is it! It is a stunning example of a Cheongsam dress, custom made by a local Californian designer in the late 1960’s for a runway fashion collection. It was crafted from dynamic ivory cotton with an all-over embroidered paisley monochromatic pattern. It’s silhouette is fitted and flattering with subtle slits at the side seam hem for comfort and movement. It is lightweight and the neckline is classic with a mandarin collar with structured inserts and button closure at the chest. There is also a hidden zipper at the side seam. It’s close-fitting silhouette stays true to traditional Chinese cheongsam design.History:The cheongsam, also known as a qipao, is a close-fitting dress that originated in 1920s Shanghai. It quickly became a fashion phenomenon that was adopted by movie stars and schoolgirls alike. The history of this iconic garment reflects the rise of the modern Chinese woman in the twentieth century dating back to the overthrowing of the Qing dynasty when Chinese intellectuals began to revolt against traditional values, calling instead for a democratic and egalitarian society based on Western standards, including the emancipation and education of women. Foot-binding was outlawed and women were allowed into the education system. Condition:Great vintage condition with no damage to note.Measurements:Bust - 15 1/4"Waist - 13"Hips - 17 1/2"
