60’s Wood Box Handbag$40.00
Size: 3. 75" tall by 6" wide by 4. 75" deep, with 9" handle. Label: none This decoupage rococo print wooden box bag from the 1960s combines antique designs with sleek, mod hardware in bright gold metal. The print appears to be a transfer, applied onto the wooden base of the bag. It looks to me like the bag was sold this way, professionally made, rather than homemade, as many such bags were. If homemade, it was exceptionally well done! The lacquer overlaying the design is completely uniform, smooth and quite thin, so that it appears printed, rather than collaged. The top handle of the handbag is a heavy, gold metal in a square shape, with cutouts, very mod 1960s! The triple ball clasp is also gold metal, as are the 4 ball feet on the base of the bag. Inside, the bag is lined with pale gold felt, trimmed with floral ribbon, and painted light yellow along the edges. A small mirror is attached to the lid. The lining, the hardware, and the body of the bag are in great condition, with the only issues to note are some tarnishing to the inside mirror, and some faint, lavender-colored scuffs on the base (see photo). In very good condition, this adorable 1960s box purse will work equally well for day or evening use.
