background information, courtesy POSH, Inc., Records, Historical Museum of Southern Florida (excerpted): Jay Anderson (1920-1983) was a graduate of the Ethel Traphagen School of Fashion Design in New York. He began his career as a junior designer in New York City. After a stint with the Army Corp of Engineers during WWII, he moved to Florida, where he designed custom clothes for Miami's socially prominent women. He established Jay Anderson, Inc. there, in 1956. The company, renamed POSH, Inc., became the largest couture business in the southeastern U. S., with collections sent to upscale stores across the country four times each year.
