Dorothy O'Hara is an iconic designer known for her fabulously draped 40s and 50s dresses. This is a rarer item, a Dorothy O'Hara from the mid to late 1960s, giving a tantalizing look at her style evolution. Clearly, she still was a master of draping, but used her skills in a perfectly 60s way, with this gleaming fitted sheath dress. The dress frames a lovely decolletage with its draped neckline and off-shoulder treatment.
SIZE: No size label in the dress
Bust - 38"
Waist - 26"
Hips - 35. 5"
Bodice length from shoulder seam - 13. 5"
Skirt length: 39. 5"
Sweep: 36"
FABRIC/COLORS: The fabric is a silky gold metallic brocade in classic 60s earth tones - orange, yellow and green with a hint of brown. There is a background floral print and a jacquard woven overlay of golden roses in full bloom. I believe the fiber is mostly rayon. Fully lined in acetate type fabric.
TAG: Dorothy O'Hara
CLOSURES: A nylon zipper down the back. A leather backed self fabric belt closes with a pair of hidden hooks and grommets.
CONDITION: There is one partial thickness crack in the leather backing of the belt - front-side looks fine.
I think the skirt was taken in with the skirt lining replaced at that time. There is potentially about 0. 75" more room available at hip level in each side seam of the skirt - see closeups showing seams inside and out. There is also potential extra room at the back center seam, which has more seam allowance than usual - see 3rd closeup. No other issues noted.
