60’s Black Brocade Evening Coat with Rhinestone Buttons$60.00
This black-on-black brocade 1960s evening coat will add a touch of vintage glamour to your outerwear wardrobe! The black brocade fabric, probably a blend of rayon and acetate, has a raised design of what look like commas, to me punctuation chic! Unusual, square rhinestone buttons fasten the coat in front, above an attached belt that extends the curved seams from bust to waist into a short sash, fastened with fabric-covered buckle at the slightly lowered waist seam. This belt overlaps the front opening of the coat, when closed. The tapered, bracelet-length sleeves have small darts shaping them at the elbows, a sign of quality tailoring! The coat has a slightly loose silhouette, showing the growing 1920s influence on the fashions of the early 1960s: mod meets deco! The coat is fully lined with black acetate satin. This lining is sewn down all around at the coat hem, and has been taken up in a single pleat just above where it meets the hem, perhaps due to past stretching of the lining fabric. This is not seen when worn, and has been nicely done, but is almost certainly not original to the piece. In very good condition, the coat has a tiny bit of fraying to the edge of the brocade fabric on one small section at the hem (too minor to photograph visibly, and quite unlikely to be noticed unless someone is lying on the floor to check, LOL). It has no other issues to note. Pair it with everything from an evening gown to leggings, this versatile black brocade 1960s coat is not just for special occasions!
