50s/60s White Brocade Dress And Jacket Outfit

DETAILS: The dress and jacket combos of this era are so versatile - a fitted almost-wiggle dress that looks elegant and lady-like with the jacket on. The bodice has princess seaming along with darting for a fitted bust. The straight skirt attaches at the waist with soft gathers that provide a little camouflage. Cording with faux knots & ties at the waist add visual interest.

The jacket features a fly-out collar, bracelet length sleeves with raglan shoulders, and interesting bodice seaming. The two pairs of notches down the front placket are a striking detail - I am speculating that they might have been used with linked "sweater guard" type pins in the notches.

FABRIC/COLORS: The fabric is ivory brocade or damask, woven in a fairly elaborate pattern that looks vaguely French. The two surfaces are satin and matte with a nubby texture. Based on a fiber burn test, I believe the fabric is rayon, perhaps blended with a bit of acetate. The dress is fully lined with ivory acetate type fabric, while the jacket lining is a heavier weight satin.

TAGS: No tags at all - I think this was most likely custom sewn, and done nicely.

CLOSURES: The dress closes with a long metal zipper positioned on the left side of the wearer's back, a charming and quirky detail. The jacket has no closures.

CONDITION: No stains, holes, tears or other issues noted.
