50s Tyrolean Lucite Handbag

lucite box purse by the Tyrolean Handbag Company 1950s. This amazing handbag is made of a translucent faux tortoiseshell tiger stripe and the frame is 24k gold plated filigree. It has a nice wide lucite handle with the same tiger stripe. It has a knob that clicks shut. The top sides has the filigree going from the front to the back. The lucite panels are on top, front, back and sides. It's in overall Good/excellent condition. There are no odors, clouding or cracks. There are some scratches but they are not noticeable when using because it has so much amazing detail, that's what your eyes are drawn to. The scratches could be cleaned or buffed, but as it's 70 years old, I wanted to leave it as is. There are a couple of black teardrops on the lid. This is likely a manufacturing result. The goldtone metal of the filigree parts is all present, but the metal shows some wear at the very edges. The Tyrolean sticker is missing but when you hold it to the light, you can see the faint impression of some of the letters and it is exactly like their other purses.

Measurements:

Length 8", width 4", depth 4", height 3. 25 without handle and 10. 25" with the handle.

History:

This handbag is featured in the book, A Certain Style, The Art Of The Plastic Handbag from 1949-1959.

In 1940s, the Tyrolean Handbag Company specialized in 24k gold plated filigree frames.

The handbag is so special. You will get tons of compliments or can be used as a wonderful display piece, it's that amazing.

This item is sold from a vintage boutique in Los Angeles, CA.
