1950s rare metal eyeglass case, hard case with Art Deco design. This hard to find case was made by Optoplast PLC, a UK company that opened in the 1946 and is still in business today. The exterior has rows of tiny rectangles. The hinges, rivets, bolts and clasp are made of brass.
This unusual case pops open from the top lid, with a spring loaded push button clasp. It is lined with what feels like velveteen or felt.
It measures 5 1/2" tall x 2-1/2". It is marked, Optoplast PLC Registered Design.
The case won't hold oversized glasses but will hold regular glasses that measure 5 3/4" tall and 1 7/8" wide.
It is in VG condition. There is one small dent on the lid, that creates a little space (see last photo). The dent doesn't affect the opening and closing of the case. You press the little slot shaped button to open and close the case.
