This necklace has a nice weight and feel to it. The hinges are sturdy and allow the metal bars to slink together. It is an Egyptian collar style and is a choker size measuring 16.5 inches. The thickness measures .75 inch. The links are thickly stamped metal giving it a machine part vibe. They are ever so slightly graduated in size, so it curves subtly to curve with your neck. The fold over box clasp is marked," Napier, pat 4774749". It appears to be a plated gold, not bright gold, but very muted gold.
This metal necklace is circa 1950 and made by a high end costume jewelry maker of the time, Napier. The first half of the 20th century was the heyday for well made costume jewelry sold from fine department stores to Woolworth, usually made in Europe or the United States. The manufacture and quality of costume jewelry deteriorated in the latter part of the century making this era the last with enduring products.
NecromanceNola sells this type of vintage necklace often since it was well made and had unique design. The tiny chain links are a unique, square cornered rectangle shape and have a nice weight to them. The box clasp is original to the necklace and is functional which has the Napier stamp on it. These metal chokers pair well with our longer vintage chain jewelry.
