Wonderful midcentury lucite clutch by Wilardy. Long and sleek with a carved design on the outside. The flap opening is a spring hinge. It is signed on the insides metal. Fantastic condition with little sign of wear.

Lucite handbags were manufactured from 1946 to 1979 by Will Hardy. Toward the end of WWII, he was able to get damaged lucite airplane noses as a material. During that time period leather and suede were scarce. He designed a lucite jewelry box and brought it to Saks Fifth Avenue in New York City. It was a hit. He was asked to add a handle and the rest is history.
