Stand out from the crowd... or blend into a coral reef, in this vintage 50's formal dress...
Although these 'cupcake' style dresses were prevalent during the 1950's, it is fairly rare to see them in any non-pastel hues, let alone a wild magenta color like this! Dubbed "the brain coral dress" because of its obvious affinity to its namesake, it is so clearly inspired by it!! The silhouette is classic fit and flare, sleeveless, with a sweetheart bust or neckline. The base of the dress is a lightweight acetate material, which is echoed in the ruched waistline. An intermediate layer skirt is made of ten tiers of tulle, giving it its volume. On top are the layers of tulle that feature wavy squiggles of gathered tulle, with a finished edge -the bodice has a finer version of this pattern. There is metal boning within the bustier-like bodice, and it closes with a metal side zipper. The overall condition is excellent, with only three small repairs; one at right waistline, where skirt and bodice meet, one at base of metal zipper and one at left underarm area. A few small areas of light rust color stains are hidden within the ruffles and folds of the skirt. Please review photographs for full details.
Please note: dress didn't quite fit on my dress form, so it was pinned to the form and has a slightly asymmetrical appearance of fit (but I assure you it is not asymmetrical!)
