1950s Greta Plattry Madras Plaid Sleeveless Sun Worshiper Dress. Perfect for picnics and summer strolls in the park – a dress ideal for day-into-evening dressing! This dress is incredibly well-made and constructed in heavy weight American grown cotton. The color combination of the plaid is sari inspired autumnal hues: red, olive green, yellow and white with gold accents, fringe layers and a rick rack hem. The bodice & bust are tailored and flattering, with seven brass buttons down the back! The full balloon skirt could be made fuller with use of a crinoline if desired.

Greta Plattry was a famous American sportswear designer who began working in the 1940s after immigrating from Germany and was known for using the highest quality fabrics in her designs. She designed dress & sweater ensembles along with casual clothing such as sundresses, bathing suits and playsuits. In an article re: the Cotton industry of the US South from “the Atlanta Constitution Paper” in 1956: “To give you an idea of some of the pretty things being done with day-into-evening cotton clothes, Greta Plattry has fashioned “sun worshiper” dresses that are perfect daytime gad-abouts, and pretty enough to go onto dinner in the evening. Shown here is a bare topped sun dress that’s sari inspired with glints of gold and dimensional details”.
