So this coat looks absolutely beautiful, and it is totally wearable as is, but it has some issues that you cannot see. Here is the background. I got it from a local estate, and the fur smelled like musty basement. I read that you can remove the smell by putting it in a plastic garment container with coffee grounds, which works with wool too. It removed the smell, and it smells like hazelnut coffee now. There are a couple of other issues though.
As you can see, the lining is discolored, and I showed this to a friend of mine who knows about furs and she says the fur seems kind of dry. Guess a musty basement is not great for fur. I had no idea prior to this what to even look for when buying something with fur. It doesn’t shed, but the backing feels a little stiff in places. That is a sign of dryness. Still, the coat is wearable as is and the fur on the collar could be removed as it’s just held in place by being tacked down by threads in various locations. Color is an all olive green. I think the sleeves are a little short too, but maybe it was made that way.
